Fruit Hunter

I went St. Lawrence Market during Intersession week. The reason that why I chose this market is the oldest market in Toronto since 1895.
It’s one of the world’s great markets – each merchant a square on a lively and authentic patchquilt. The mothers, sons, fathers and daughters whose hard work and passion for food and their craft make up the collective story of the Market. You’re here, and part of the story. There’s so much to see, taste and discover.

 The St. Lawrence Market Complex today is comprised of three main buildings: The South Market, the North Market and St. Lawrence Hall. Their main purposes are described in brief below.(http://www.stlawrencemarket.com)
 I don't know that Brussel Sprouts's original shape. I saw Brussel Sprouts and Halloween pumpkin.
 Many people are crowded in front of Fresh Pasta store.
 It looks like really delicious pasta source.
 Here are varous pasta.
 This market has fish store and butcher, also it has famous fish and chips store and clam chower store.
 
When I explore this market suddenly I feel hungry.
So, I bought tarts.
 

 I chose Avocado because when I was in the market, I found avocado. I wonder that 'Is it vegetable? or fruit?' It is too confuse me. I want to study about Avocado. So, I chose this FRUIT!
 
Oxford dictionary defined avocado means: A pear-shaped FRUIT with a rough leathery skin and smooth, oily edible flesh.
 
 The avocado is colloquially known as the Alligator Pear, reflecting its shape and the leather-like appearance of its skin. Avocado is derived from the Aztec word "ahuacatl". Avocados are the fruit from Persea americana, a tall evergreen tree that can grow up to 65 feet in height. Avocados vary in weight from 8 ounces to 3 pounds depending upon the variety.
 
 There are dozens of varieties of avocadoes. The rich and creamy Hass variety is the most popular type of avocado in the United States, and 95% of all avocados grown in the United States are produced in California, original home of the Hass variety. They are generally available throughout the year, they are the most abundant and at their best during the spring and summer in California and in October in Florida. During the fall and winter months you can find Fuerto, Zutano and Bacon varieties. While avocados are technically fruits, we have categorized them here as vegetables since this is how they are usually considered from a culinary perspective.
 
 Avocados are native to Central and South America and have been cultivated in these regions since 8,000 B.C. In the mid-17th century, they were introduced to Jamaica and spread through the Asian tropical regions in the mid-1800s. Cultivation in United States, specifically in Florida and California, began in the early 20th century. While avocados are now grown in most tropical and subtropical countries, the major commercial producers include the United States (Florida and California), Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Brazil and Colombia. The avocado basic taste is not salt, sour and a little bit sweet. Sometime unripe avocado taste bitter.
It looks like pear and it has an interesting chewy texture like mashed potato but smell is different.
A lot of people confuse that avocado is vegetable. However avocado the highest in nutritional fruit.



 There are lots of different methods to eat avocado. I decided Guacamole. It is a dip made from avocados, is originally from Mexico. The name is derived from two Aztec Nahuatl words—ahuacatl (avocado) and molli (sauce). All you really need for guacamole is ripe avocados and salt. After that, a little lime or lemon juice. Then comes chopped cilantro, chiles, onion, and tomato, if you want.
 
Ingredients
 
- 2 ripe avocados
- 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
- 1 Tbsp of fresh lime juice or lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp to 1/4 cup of minced tomato
- 1-2 serrano chiles, stems and seeds removed, minced
- 2 tablespoons cilantro (leaves and tender stems), finely chopped
- A dash of freshly grated black pepper
- 1/2 ripe tomato, seeds and pulp removed, chopped
 
Method

Cut the avocados in half. Remove seed. Scoop out avocado from the peel, put in a mixing bowl.

Using a fork, roughly mash the avocado. Sprinkle with salt and lime juice. The acid in the lime juice will help delay the avocados from turning brown. Add the chopped tomato, cilantro, black pepper, and chiles.


 I made Guacamole in just five minutes!

I made "new" food~~ Fruit & Vegetable Fries!

 

Today, I made 'new' food for my assignment!

I did think about 'new' food too long time. Finally, I got a new idea.

That is Fruit & Vegetable Fries!

I love fried food. So, I want to make new fried food.

Ingredient list
- Rice papper
- Cucumber
- Carrot
- Cheese
- Raspberry
- Kiwi
- Lemon
- Cactus jam (for sauce)

Recipe
1. Roll up fruit and vegetable with rice papper
2. Deep-fry
3. Done :)
 


This Fruit & Vegetable Fries have various tastes.


  • Kiwi fry is a little bit sour and sweet.
  • Lemon fry is too bitter.
  • Raspberry fry is really sweet like jam.
  • Cucumber and carrot fries are rather bland taste so, this fries need cactus jam sauce.
  • Cheese fry is  very nutty taste.


  • Taste
    Overall, taste is not bad. fruit and cheese fries really umame.

    Smell
    It smell only oil because the rice papper seal up fruit and vegetable smell.

    Hearing
    When I eat Fruit & Vegetable Fries, it sound like crunch.

    Touch
    That feel like crispy batter and a littl bit hard.

    Tastes like Fruit & Vegetable pastry.

    How is this food unique? NO. This food overlapping other Fruit & Vegetable bread.
     
    What did you learn about your palate?
    - I learned about the lemon peel too bitter.
     
    Did you enjoy this food?
    - Yes. I really enjoy experience and I will make new menu with getting this assinment.
     
    Would you eat it again? Why or why not?
    - I think that I will eat Fruit fry again.
      However, I never eat Vegetable fry again becaues the food has a too rather bland taste.
     
    Are there certain flavours you find more or less appealing?
    - I find that when fruit apply heat, it will be more sweety.
     
    How has this experience changed the way in which you will taste, analyse and use foods in your cooking?
    - Usually, the fruit eat whitout cooking. However, I fried the fruit and I got that when fruit
      apply heat, it will be more sweety.
